School Fines

This article is talking about how some charter school systems are getting out of hand. They are making parents pay repetitious amounts of money, they may be small but they add up. The policy is pretty messed up but familiar to me. This school is charging money for every little thing the kids do wrong. If your shoe gets untied they give you a demerit. If you have no belt, they give you a demerit. If you don’t have a button, or one of your buttons is undone, you get a demerit. They use this excuse saying it helps them educationally. When your shoe becomes untied, you can’t help it. If you’re running late and forget a belt, it was an accident. The school is taking the little things to the extreme. Getting a demerit for accidentally forgetting a belt is ridiculous, and if anything it wouldn’t help you educationally, it would lower your self confidence. When you constantly do things by mistake you feel as if you have no responsibility, and as if you’re disappointing your parents. I went to Trinity. If you forget a belt at trinity and/or your friend doesn’t have an extra, you have to pay $10 for a new belt. If you get a Saturday school, it costs you $35. After 3 times of being late, its $5 and believe me, it adds up fast.  I don’t think that if these kids mess up just a little, they should be looked down upon and given demerits; it makes you feel bad, like you’re always doing something wrong. This system is messed up in a way, they shouldn’t get demerits for the little things that has nothing to do with discipline of other things. Pine Ridges discipline is different, if the teachers didn’t stress the students to be perfect and not make the littlest mistakes; I think problems would occur less.

IN Orange County, when kids are distracting kids from class with a toy or a match or a lighter, they get Out of School Suspension for 1, 3, or 10 days depending on age and what they bring. In Orange County, for dress code, you can’t wear any provocative clothing or things that are indecent which I completely agree with. You cannot wear hats, sweatbands, or sunglasses inside school buildings. Personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with hats unless they have inappropriate things on them, you aren’t going to hurt anyone with a hat. You aren’t allowed to wear bandanas or gang related pieces of clothing. Now with this, I agree but I don’t agree. If someone is wearing a bandana as a headband, there’s no harm, but if it’s intentionally meant for a gang related reason, I think it’s wrong. You also aren’t allowed to wear things adorned with spikes or chains which can be perceived or used as a weapon. This I agree with. It doesn’t look good to wear chains on your clothing anyways.  You can’t wear halters or tank tops. This I don’t agree with, if you’re not showing any undergarments, it does no harm. I agree that you need to wear clothes correctly as well. I also agree that clothing shouldn’t show too much skin. If you’re willing to show all that you have no morals or values. I think sagging is dumb, it doesn’t look good; I don’t know why boys think it’s attractive.  Clothing shouldn’t be too tight either, that’s gross. With the shirts and dresses policy, I agree that no one needs to see too much, but there are people out there who are tall and longer and things look shorter on them which aren’t fair. For the most part I agree with it all but some things could, and should be different.

David Beckham was born in England on May 2, 1975. His parent’s names were Ted and Sandra Beckham. Ted was a repairman and Sandra was a hairstylist. Beckham was a middle child. His family was always fond of Manchester United; it was something he grew up with. Manchester United is England’s legendary soccer franchise. Beckham showed his love for “football” at an early age. When he was 11 he won the Charlton Soccer Schools National Skills Competition showing his skill early in life. The Manchester United team officials started to notice his talent and asked him to try out for the youth team. Already at sixteen, Beckham was playing for the united training division, and had already left home. Two years later he got accepted into the club and already by 1995 he was playing as a full time starter. In 1997 Beckham was named The Professional Footballers Association Young Player of the Year. Beckham netted 13 million dollars in 1998 from an Adidas contract. The Beckham brand got even better when he met Victoria Adam. In ’97 they quickly fell in love and two years later had their first child, Brooklyn Joseph. Two Months later the two got married in Dublin, Ireland just outside of castle, and had an $800,000 wedding.  Beckham still continued to play well and didn’t fail. In 1999 he led the team to 3 titles, The Premier League Title, The FA Cup Championship, and The Champions League Title. England qualified for the World Cup in 2002. The same year, Beckham signed a $22 million dollar contract to stay with Manchester for 3 years. Yet, in 2003 he was offered a deal from Real Madrid.  Spanish players were thrilled to have him on the team. When the Americans were just getting to know him, the movie, Bend it like Beckham came out. America’s fascination with Beckham culminated in 2007 when Beckham moved across the Atlantic to sign a $250 million contract with LA Galaxy. In less than 48 hours, the Galaxy sold over 5,000 season tickets. Beckham injured his knee and missed out of the World Cup in 2010 because of an Achilles injury.  Last year, in July, David and Victoria welcomed their little girl, Harper Steven, in to the family after having 3 boys.

People have been illegally downloading and sharing music online.  The war over Internet file swapping has raged from Silicon Valley to Washington.  There were an estimated 63 million people who download music over the internet. These people had little to worry about until now.  Entertainment companies have the right to get your name, address and phone number if they have evidence your using the internet to get their copy righted works. They have permission from the US District Court in Washington. There was a case where someone was sharing 600 music files. People who also download music for personal enjoyment can also be affected.  The initial focus is on super users, the 10% of people who offer 90% of the files. Not everyone will be warned before a lawsuit is filed. Fees can run as high as $150,000 per song.  The robots aren’t perfect though. One time the robot thought someone downloaded Harry Potter but it happened to be a report. I think people should get in trouble for doing it, I mean it’s illegal just like doing drugs, but if the person doesn’t know that they’re doing wrong, they don’t deserve to suffer all the consequences. I personally get music from iTunes or other music apps where you pay for the song on my iPod. If I was a musician I wouldn’t want my music illegally shared. If my music was being illegally shared, I would be getting no profit, which I wouldn’t like. Musicians make money at concerts, they make money by selling their products, and they make money through iTunes etc. I think it is over all wrong, but if the person honestly doesn’t know they are illegally downloading the music, they shouldn’t have to suffer the consequences.

There was a case against Whitney Harper, a Texas teenager who was fined for allegedly downloading 37 songs on her computer that she didn’t pay for.  She argued that she wasn’t aware that the file sharing program was illegal. She said she thought that songs could be downloaded for free. She was charged up to $750 for each song that she had downloaded. An association of record companies had sued her. Whitney said she should be charged $200 because she didn’t know she was illegally downloading the songs. The court said that she couldn’t claim she was an innocent infringer.  The court said her argument was of irrelevant reasons. The association hired investigators who sued and/or threatened to sue 40,000 people. A lot of the people who were sued or threatened to be sued were students who couldn’t afford the fees.  I believe that the fees that were charged to people will warn others of doing the same thing. A lot of people don’t have the money to pay the massive fines. If you just bought a song for 99 cents or 1.29, it would be cheaper than ending up having to pay the massive fines.

Why is trust in any relationship important?

Trust is so important in life. Having trust develops a foundation, a new start, a beginning to something more that is or will come. Trust is a very important part to every relationship. Trust is one of the many things you need to have in a relationship. If you’re starting a relationship first you need to love the person, you cannot just pick someone up of the street and want to marry them, and you need to build a relationship first. Trust is included in building an actual relationship. You need love, faith, strength, and you need to be yourself.

Trust is when you can tell your spouse, or even friend, or lover etc. everything, and when I say everything I mean everything. You should be able to tell them what exactly your doing, where exactly you are, where you have been, what you are doing and what you have done. You should be able to tell them your life story including everything ion your past from birth to the current time. You shouldn’t have to even think about what you’re telling them, and all along you need to be you. You shouldn’t fall in love with someone you cannot have fun around or can’t tell everything to. You need to be with someone in whom the first spark you felt when you met them still remains. Think about it, when you are with someone who you’ve been with for 30 years, and you still feel the same way about them as you did when you first met 30 years ago, they were meant for you, and it’s most likely true love which cannot be replaced.

Trust is being able to rely on the person you love, and the assurance that they will always be with you no matter what. Trust is the first step in a relationship it’s the base on which your relationship grows. If you don’t have trust, you have nothing. Trust is an important part of any relationship, not just your relationship with your boyfriend/girlfriend or fiancé or spouse.

Trust in Friendships is also extremely important. If you don’t have a friend you can confide in completely, and tell absolutely anything to, you feel helpless. Friends you can trust are ones to encourage you and help you through everything that hurts you, and sometimes they become part of you. My best friend is someone I can confide in completely, I can tell her anything. Luckily I also have more people I can confide in, but sometimes there are things I can tell my best friend that I don’t even want to tell my mother. Friends are really important to me, and being able to trust in them is just as important. If I know I can’t trust in someone, I don’t like to be around them. If I was to stick around them and accidentally tell them something really important to me and they told someone else, I would be extremely mad.

Some other people you should be able to trust in are your family. Family is very important, it means the world to me, but if there is someone in my family I can’t trust, why would I want to be around them. Family is someone who should always be there for you and always tell you the truth. Sometimes friends will tell you things that will make you feel better but aren’t necessarily true. I believe if you want to have any kind of relationship with anyone, you need to flat out tell them the truth. It is wrong to sit there and lie to their face. Anyways, family should be the first people you go to when you have a problem. I would first go to my mom or dad, or step-mom or grandma, the people who have always been there for me.

This article was talking about college education. It was talking about the rising and falling of money received in loans etc. In this article it was saying that tuition has gone up and people are wondering why. Like for estimates, they don’t take deductions from employment or income taxes. The estimated life time earning is $800,000. College is worth it, you need to spend money carefully. While in college you give out so much money, but you don’t take in as much money as you’re putting out. Scholarships help to reduce the initial price to get in to a university.  College will offer you classes and degrees that will get you farther in life, and make you earn more money. If I go to college hopefully I won’t pay for it. I’d like to get a scholarship that pays for the majority of my fees, and then I would be more than happy. If I don’t get a large scholarship, I hope my parents will help with tuition; otherwise I’m going to be stuck with multiple jobs, depending on what kind of college or university that I go to. So basically I hope I’ll get help with tuition or I’ll be left on my own.

                I picked the University of Florida, and the University of Michigan. To attend school at The University of Michigan, for four years, it costs anywhere above and below 10,000 a term, unless you’re not a resident of Michigan, then it’s around 20,000 a full term. To attend The University of Florida, it costs fewer than 2,000 for a full term. These colleges use bright futures etc.  The books cost around $50 used. College is very pricy and costs a lot of money. I’m still hoping to get a scholarship to guide me through. 3 more years!

Compare and Contrast: “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “The Scottsboro Case”

In “To Kill a Mockingbird”, and “The Scottsboro Case” there was a lot of prejudice and racist people. The Judge was white, and so was the Jury. This meant that there was basically no tolerance for black people. In the courtroom, the blacks even had their own section to sit in. The judge and the jury had the verdict before they even started in the court. They ignored all the evidence that proved the offender not guilty. In To Kill a Mockingbird, the offender was Tom Robinson, and in “The Scottsboro Case” the offenders were the nine Scottsboro boys. The Scottsboro boys and Tom Robinson were charged with raping white woman. The three of these women wanted attention. Ruby Bates, and Victoria Price, who were in “The Scottsboro Case”, were prostitutes so they obviously wanted attention. Mayella from “To Kill a Mockingbird” was emotionally and physically abused. She did not even  understand what love was, and what it felt like to be loved. Mayella was supposedly beaten by Tom on the right side of her face, but evidence proved it wrong. If Tom had punched Mayella, he would have used his left hand, but he could not use it. When Tom was younger his left hand got caught in a cotton gin and that accident made his hand unusable. Bob Ewell, Mayella's father was left handed which proved him guilty of beating her. Also in the Scottsboro case, the two girls were completely unharmed and not injured in anyway , which obviously meant they could not have been raped. Also both trials occurred in Alabama in the 1930’s.

                There were also a couple of differences in the two trials, here are a few. In “To Kill a Mockingbird”, there was Tom Robinson and Mayella only (one on one), but in “The Scottsboro Case”, there were nine boys and the two girls(nine on two). Also, the nine boys in the Scottsboro trials were all teenagers, and Tom Robinson was a happily married man with kids. Also, the trials and convictions of the Scottsboro Case took years and years longer than the trials and convictions in “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Another thing is, “To Kill a Mockingbird” was a book and The Scottsboro trials happened in real life. But no crime in American history had more convictions, trials, reversals, and retrials as did “The Scottsboro Case”.

                John Barrie was interested in paper mills, which were websites where students could get papers from online for a small fee, and turn them in as their own work. John Barrie had an idea. He decided to use technology and use it to catch kids who were cheating on their assignments. John Barrie made a for-profit company called iParadigms. His website is used for hundreds of U.S High schools and universities. When a school licenses his service the faculty make accounts on his service. The teachers tell the students to turn in digital copies of their work to the service. Then the papers go through databases and they see who has used the same paper. He says that 85% of the papers turned in are exact replicas of the ones online. Another 13% comes from old papers used by other students.

                I think that Mr. Barrie is very smart and is doing the same thing. When you plagiarize, the person who actually spent time in doing their research doesn’t get any credit, which is wrong. I think if you’re actually going to take the initiative to go to college, you need to do what’s expected of you rather than cheat and feel bad. When you do things you feel accomplished, but when you cheat, you don’t feel good about it. Plagiarism is not okay and it shouldn’t be motivated. When you have a lot of things going on and are stressed, honestly, you think about it but you got to have some responsibility and then you’ll be looked up to. You won’t be looked down on or have a bad reputation. I think that definitely the student needs to sit there with the teacher watching and do the report. Then they most likely won’t do it again, who wants there teacher hovering over them? Anyways, I think institutions take it seriously because, if you cheat it won’t take you anywhere in life, and it won’t prepare you for future jobs and business opportunities. At the University of Michigan, international students (if caught plagiarizing) cant register for full time classes, will have to go to another school, or even possibly have to leave the U.S. Plagiarism could result in suspension from the school for several terms, permanent expulsion, and the students degree could be revoked. I think plagiarism is wrong.  Also on  http://ns.umich.edu/new/releases/7506 it says that UM actually uses Turnitin.com.

Fast Break to China- Kaitlyn Bernath

Basically this article is talking about how important Mr. Yao will become, if he continues to succeed and do well. Mr. Yao’s journey to the NBA is the product of a calculated bet more than a decade ago when they said sports would provide a commercial opening to china. The league had first aired a game on TV in China in 1987. Nike actually outfitted China’s track team in the Olympics in 1984.The NBA and Nike got lucky when they landed Mr.Yao, a skilled and personable athlete who is already a cultural icon in China. David Stern said that kids will now want to be like him. Mr. Yao will be a market unto himself. Mr. Yao is important to the NBA because he has a big impact already and he will connect the sport of Basketball to China. International players impact people everywhere. They open up opportunities for players everywhere when they realize what they can do, and who they can be like. For example, now that Mr. Yao has come to the US there will be many young kids in China who want to do the same thing.

As of last season, there are a total of 84 international players. Last season only 2 teams did not have a foreign player on their team. The Toronto Raptors have 6 international players from Australia, Brazil, Italy, Lithuania, Nigeria, and Spain. The Mavericks and the Utah Jazz have 5 foreign players from Netherlands, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the Virgin Islands, while 8 teams have four. France provided the most players with 11 followed by Turkey, 5 from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Serbia, and Spain with 4. It all started at the Olympic Games when basketball was introduced. When the Americans had lost to the European team they realized how much value there could be in allowing international players to come to the United States.

                This article talks about how Mr.Mahmoud wanted to start a pizza business. Mr.Mahmoud went to Italy to learn the art of making pizzas, but dreamed of opening his own shop. Mr.Mohmoud started a pizza business in Baghdad. He decorated his shop with things from Rome and an Italian flag with Arabic writing. Americans from the nearby compound came and bought pizzas, and was soon selling nearly 200 pizzas a day to the Americans. His profit rose up to more than $1000; this was a lot of money in Iraq. Soon terrorists blew up the US compound and his profit fell to only $160 in September. Sales picked up a little, but dropped again. When he went through the receipts he made $17 one day, $13 the next and $1 the next. When he was in danger he left and quit, then he came back and started selling them again. His family helped by doing different things in his restaurant. Another good business would be a grocery store, but I personally wouldn’t work there in the war because I would rather be safe than sorry. He decided to think of a place that there was little business and most likely no pizza, and succeeded when he decided to open a business.

                They have to go through many different stages before opening a business overseas. They have to talk to the U.S. department of commerce and they have to think about how different things will be before they jump to conclusions.They need to do their homework on the customs and rules they need to know before spreading their business. They also need to pick a location where there are people who would be attracted to what they’re selling, and they need to decide what business they are opening. They need to make a business plan also and find a representative who can help them with any questions they need to know; an expert preferably. They also need to find a bank and hire the right people for their blog. They need someone who is willing to work and will do a good job. It would also be good if the person has experience in the field. Lastly they need to take it slow, think through everything,  and make sure you have all the necessary documents. There is actually a McDonalds in Iraq. They seem to be quite successful too.

Tattoos

I think that it makes sense. If you are going to an interview and have tattoos, you should cover the majority of them up. If you have a bunch of tattoos you don’t look very civilized. If you have one or two tattoos people shouldn’t be so judgmental, but if you have a lot of noticeable or large tattoos it makes sense to cover them up. It can count as discrimination. For example, if someone won’t hire you because you’re black, or won’t let you play a sport because you’re small it’s pretty much the same thing. Although I do think if you have a lot, you’re less likely to get hired. Business owners have the right to hire who they want, but it’s wrong for them to judge people just because they have a tattoo. If I owned a business I wouldn’t be rude or impolite to the person. I would kindly say well, those ones need to be covered so please wear long pants etc.  Standards now are different because back then it wasn’t as common to have a tattoo. Now there are kids that are 16 who have tattoos but back then, it would be more of a surprise. I believe people shouldn’t be so strongly judgmental, but also believe you need to act mature and ethical when you want a job.

In this article it is talking about how some NBA teams are losing a lot of money, and need to cut back. The NBA is going above and beyond trying to please fans anywhere from fancy season ticket packages to paper Christmas cards. The NBA, when trying to please fans, is spending too much money. They are putting out more than they are bringing in. In doing this they are having financial problems, and are even considering dropping players.

To cut back, teams have been doing different things. One team allows a young boys basketball team to entertain the fans during half time. When letting the boys entertain the fans, even some of their parents are buying tickets to watch the boys perform. So when the boys entertain pro-bono, they also bring money in from the parents. The Cleveland Cavaliers are switching from paper Christmas cards to electronic ones, and this will save the Cavaliers $40,000. Also, the Denver Nuggets have eliminated free cell phone texting for employees.

Some of these cutbacks can hurt the team. The fans may not like the way the team does things after making cutbacks. Also, the usual player amount is 15. If they eliminate 1-2 players some players may get fatigue, and the most valued players will not get as many breaks or free time.

The teams make most of their money through TV contracts. The other money comes from the arena, through ticket sales, luxury suites, in stadium advertising, selling merchandise, local advertising and sponsorships, and local TV and radio broadcasting deals. I think they are doing the right things but they need to cut back on the things that don’t matter. For example, it doesn’t matter if you send your fans a paper Christmas card to their home or an electronic Christmas card to their computer. It is the thought that counts.

      Title X is a law that basically says that women can do what men can do educationally and physically. It says that it’s not  right for men to have special classes if they need extra help, if women can’t have them. It also states that women also should not be able to play any sports (softball, basketball, soccer etc.) if men are not allowed to play them. Basically, women should be able to have the same opportunities as men. I believe this article is 100% fair because it allows me to be in school right now, and play sports, and even get a scholarship. If someone eliminates women’s rights in college sports, it also means they would not be playing in any professional sports. That is definitely discrimination. I believe that women should definitely be able to participate in sports and school no matter what. I think that even if someone is special or bigger than someone else, they should have a chance just like anyone else would. This is a strong, important article that means a lot to women athletes all over the world. Also, as you can see it was a good choice to allow women to play sports, because they have definitely done our country proud.

Title X was started under President Nixon in 1970. Title X is now managed in the Department of Health and Human Services ’Office of Public Health and Science, Office of Population Affairs by the Office of Family Planning. Title X is a core component in the U.S health system. Now with the Title X it insures low-income women all of the following:  Comprehensive, culturally competent counseling and services; Breast and pelvic examinations; Breast and Cervical Cancer screening; Healthy body weight screening and counseling; HIV testing, and many more. Title X has done a lot for women all over for many different things, anywhere from sports to education and so on. It started under President Nixon and has continued to bless many women all over.

      This article is all about the money spent at Ohio State University. It basically says that even though they are putting out SO much money, they are also taking in quite a bit too. Ohio State Universities budget is the biggest in College sports, not just now but in history. The school receives so much money. They have 36 varsity teams. For each team game they have concessions, parking, tickets, and souvenir stores. So, for all of the 36 teams, in each game they earn the money for all of that. The UF football  team(who beat OSU) made about 34 million dollars alone last year. The schools are using this money to fund everything else. They fund tutors, they used it to make a athlete only lounge, they use it to pay bills too, etc. They even spent over $700,00 on a utility bill last year. It's important to have a strong football team because you want power, you will get more money, you'll get more fans, and everything else. I think that the way that OSU does things balances out well. I think their plans and organization of their sports is well. OSU gains a lot of money but they put out alot too. While doing this, they use the money to build their team up, which i think is very important.

      Basically this article says that some baseball players are very successful. Not only do they play baseball, but they also run business too. Some of the baseball players start even as early as 15. This player(Vladimir Guerrero) opens businesses which he invests in. The Guerrero's have there own company called Los Hermanos Guerrero which means The Guerrero Brothers. The brothers have launched quite a few businesses that help reduce local poverty, including construction-supply stores,a propane distributorship, livestock and vegetable farms. If i was a rich celebrity, i would give back. I would give money to charities. I would do this because, i feel that if I  am blessed with so much and i have the money to help bless others, they deserve it if not as much as me, way more than me.
      I would donate to Operation Smile, if   i were a rich celebrity.The public gets involved by donating money to this organization. This organization does surgery. This surgery gives kids the chance to smile. Kids with cleft lips or cleft  palates can be to embarrassed to even attend school. This 45 minute surgery gives them hope and a life full of happiness. When they leave the country they leave behind education, training, and equipment building a self sufficient global health network centered on continuing to transform lives. Through one child they form partnerships, alliances, and health initiatives, and try to make the world a better place.

      Basically this article states that when students reach college they should be able to take care of themselves. For instance, When a student goes to college he should be able to register himself, rather than having his parents with him, no matter what the excuse is. This article also states how parents are getting over-involved, this also pertains to the example. The parents shouldn't feel obligated to register there own child, it makes their child look lazy and unproductive, and no  college wants a lazy, unproductive child. Some parents also want to, but you need to make your child stand up because he'll need that skill eve n when he gets older.
      The schools are doing this to help the student for future years. The schools try to help the student grow up and move on. They also want them to realize that this looks bad when students cant even go and register themselves.
      I think that the school is right for doing this. I think this because, like i said the students aren't always going to be able to depend on their parents. They eventually need to grow up and move on, and in some cases.. so do the parents.
      Students will benefit from this because when they realize they don't have anyone to help them, they'll step up to the plate and start working. I think this will also motivate the students. The students will also be able to use this when he matures in future years.
     I think my parents wont be attached. I think they'll want me to do it by myself like they no i can and I know that my parents want the best for  me and will want me to be mature about doing it myself.
       Like i said before, I believe the students should be able to stand up for themselves The students should learn that they cant depend on their parents forever.

       X Games started out small, just like any other event or business. The X Games have become very popular now considering it's on TV. When something gets on TV ,news spreads and people watch. That  happened with the X Games. The X Games is a competition, similar to the Olympics that involves action sports like snowboarding.  It's also popular because of some of the athletes who perform in it, for example Shaun White.      
       The businesses are very interested in having the X Games athletes wear there clothing.They are interested because when someone famous, like Shaun White, is wearing a Volcom jacket, and a watcher sees the logo, the watcher will most likely want a Volcom jacket similar to it, depending on his age. When people see something they like, they want it. Also replays, when the television is in slow motion, will help customers see the logos even better.
      X Games Athletes salaries have risen. More companies are sponsoring the athletes. This means that the company will sponsor the athlete and give them clothing to wear for them. The companies pay the athletes to wear their clothing. So if Shaun White is wearing a Volcom jacket, and a Mountain Dew hat, not only will Shaun White get paid by Volcom, but also by Mountain Dew. Therefore the more companies that Shaun White is sponsored by, the more money he gets paid. If Shaun White wins, he also gets money from that. So the companies pay the athletes to wear their clothing and even though they pay Shaun White, they will get more money in return from the watchers wanting what Shaun White has.
       The X Games were started in 1993. The X Games started because they provided a competitive venue where athletes could be timed and judged, similar to the Olympics. The athletes would be given prize money, and would be rewarded with a gold(1st place),silver(2nd place),or Bronze(3rd place) medal.

     In this article, The Price of Getting Involved, it basically states that school fee's have risen in the last couple years. Teachers, and parents are concerned that their kids, or other kids won't be able to participate in sports.The school's are charging these fee's because of  lack of money from the county. One man said that his daughter wants to sign up for sports and activities that will cause him to pay over $250, and that he refuses to pay. However not all states allow these fee's for the extracurricular activities. Some schools have even considered totally removing their extracurricular programs entirely because they dont want to discriminate the lower-income students.

     I agree that the highschool student should have to pay, to help run the school. However i don't think these prices should be so high, i think there should be a limite on how much money they can make the students pay. I think they shouldnt be allowed to pay these prices, because the lower-income students have a disadvantage if they want to participate in the extracurricular programs. Especially with this economy these prices shouldn't be so high, because then the parents will struggle paying these prices for their kids to play, or participate.

     Iv'e heard that here, at Pine Ridge, the school is partially run off of the extracurricular activities. They can fundraise more, or stand up and tell he county about these problems. If these clubs fundraise for all of their clubs and sports, do you know how much money they could raise? This would definitely be a better option.

     I believe some people need to stand up. I also think that these prices should be limited because of how outrageous they are for low-income students who want to play and participate in the extra curricular activities here at Pine Ridge High School.

    My highschool experience so far..... Where do I begin? The first week of school was pretty good. On the first day i was not even that scared. I walked to the bus stop,got on the bus, and from then on just prayed my day would go smoothly. When i got to school, i got my schedule, and found my friend, all though it kinda sucked following her around , and not knowing anyone. Even though i followed her around, I tried to make the best of it. First i went to biology, and it went smoothly, i suppose. All day i pretty much heard rules from each teacher, but 3rd period, I started my academy classes which weren't bad at all. Finally it was lunch time, and not knowing anyone I had to find my friend and once again, just follow her around. It's nice having lunch at 12:08 because at my old school we had lunch at 1:05, ridiculous right? You see, I come from a small school where everyone knows everyone pretty much, so it was different for me, but i really like it.

     The second week of school was good also. I had made some friends and, wasn't so alone. It was nice not having to follow someone around all day. The teachers started giving more work which i didn't mind, because i know it will get worse.  I had tests and everything already, but like i said before I try to make the best of everything, especially when it benefits me. I enjoy school now, but I do miss my old friends, luckily  get to see them on a regular basis still. I know i'll do fine though, i have no worries.

     For the rest of my school year, im sure ill make more friends! I hope that this year goes well for me. I like my classes. I hope i will keep up my grades as well. I am going to try my best not to do anything stupid, and stay strong. I dont want to let stupid things or people get in the way of my education. Now i know that sound's mean, but i do not want anyone to hold me back. In this class, i hope to gain more information and knowledge on Marketing, because it seems interesting and i have never studied it before. I hope i have a really good year.Thanks for listening!

    Marketing is the creation and maintenance of satisfying exchange relationships. In marketing satisfying  customers is a very important part, as a matter of  fact its the most important part. Customers should be the main focus in all areas including: Planning of the process, producing the product, and distributing the product along with promotion. You need to make products that will grab the customers attention making them want that more than another brand or object. There is also different types of marketing, for example you can use marketing for sports. This includes all kinds of sports like football or hockey. You can also use it for  Entertainment which is plays, performances, and shows. You can even use it  for recreational purposes which is used for travelling, or tourism, or even amateur sports just not involving educational institutions.

    Sports Marketing is using sports for products, a good example would be Gatorade. In the Gatorade commercials they use athletes for all their new flavors or products ,because young people look up to athletes, and when they see them drinking Gatorade they will want some too. First you wanna find a target market. A target market is a specific group of people you wanna reach. You also want to research the fans spending habits. Now we go on to Marketing Strategies. Here are some strategies: Sports logos on clothing, along with the creation of new sports, gross impression and perfect timing. A everyday use of Sports logos on clothing could be fans being loyal to their team. Let's say the Jaguars are playing and Jimmy is a true fan, Jimmy will most likely wear his jersey whether or not he's going out of loyalty. Every time you see a logo of a sports team on a movie or TV show you record the image, that is exactly why they do it. The do it so when you see something some one famous is wearing you record it and automatically remember it.

     Entertainment Marketing is when you use entertainment to attract attention to other products. It can also be marketing plays,and movies, and things that people do for entertainment. Recreational Marketing is the marketing of travel, and tourism, and just mostly things that aren't associated with a educational institution. Television takes on a big influence in entertainment. In 4 years the 9 station's they begun with turned into 98 station's. Also in 1946 there were less than 7,000  TV sets and in only 50 years the number increased to 223 million sets. For entertainment I like to play sports,and go to theme parks, and I'd definitely hang out with my friends and/or family any day. The End.

           Summer, summer, summer where have you been?!This summer i went to quite a few places, and had a really good time! I went to Tennessee, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and theme parks.My favorite places had to have been, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and Universal. Its sad how i have to be back in this classroom, but i still like to remember what i did.

         Road trip! Off to  North Carolina we go just for a little get away after being stuck in classrooms all year. I went to North Carolina with my grandparents. I stayed in North Carolina for about a week. We stayed in a beautiful cabin in Boone, North Carolina. Our cabin was in the mountains. My favorite part of the trip was going zip lining, if you haven't been you have to go!! I also did a lot of shopping which i liked  as well. Even though North Carolina wasn't the only place i went, i still really enjoyed it.

         I LOVE visiting my family in New Hampshire so i had to put that at the top of my list. Every summer i go to New Hampshire, well except last year, but as long as i got to go this year it was ok. New Hampshire has to be my favorite place to go. Although seeing my family up there only once a year is a bummer, at least i even get to see them, i mean things could be worse. Anyways, when i got there, i pretty much just chilled out at my grandpa's, you know sit around, spend the night at my aunt's,hung out with my favorite cousin ever,those kind of things. When Saturday came i was so excited, because me and all my family were going to the lake house for a week! We ate, swam, played games,went kayaking, and had so much fun! I always cherish the time i have with them.

        Now this might be a regular for some people, including me, but spending time with family is all that matters. Universal here we come! i went to Islands of Adventure, and Universal Studios with my family a couple times. We went on a bunch of rides including Hulk, Dr. Dooms Fearfall ,Ripride Rock it (one of the newest ones) ,and one of my favorites, The Revenge of the Mummy. I absolutely love just getting away for the day and going there with friends and family. It might not be as fun for everyone, but i try to get the best out of everything.

      What a great summer, i mean there was some negatives, but why say the negative when you have the positive to overcome them? This summer was very fun going all over the place, Tennessee, North Carolina, New Hampshire, and even Florida! Even though summers over and were back to school, its fun to think about what you did. Now as I sit in this classroom, I'm actually glad i hate this assignment so i could remember what i did this summer. Hope yours was as fun as mine!
